Funk the FUNK Out!

By Anette Castro Yepiz
Ideally, I wouldn’t want the average heaux to look at my outfit and feel a sense of belonging. I want them to feel like their retinas are about to collapse due to being unable to focus, and you should too! That’s the beauty of personal style.
In our grandiose year of 2026, the clean girl still holds her thrown, however I am ready to knock it down. I am TIRED of the neutrals and basic cuts that have flooded the stores. Embrace your funk this spring. I mean bust out those outfits that you are hesitant about because ‘they’d look better in NYC’. Wear your big funky platforms, that crazy necklace, the statement bag you bought cus you were feeling quirky. Outfitting yourself is not about the basics as the clean girl would proclaim, it is about feeling and looking good! To mix patterns, materials, accessories as our closets intended.
If any inspiration falls flat, here are some amazing outfit ideas from cool TV characters that represent bringing out the FUNK!
2026 Spring Trend Alert: Polka Dots
By: Kaley Chambers

I’ve been seeing spots everywhere—literally! Over the past few weeks, polka dots have been popping up all over social media and in popular stores such as Urban Outfitters, Jaded London, Nordstrom, and more. From Maxi dresses to mules, this pattern's resurgence gives us looks that feel feminine yet powerful and playful yet polished.
Building on this momentum, following this year’s fashion weeks, houses like Patou, Altuzarra, and Khaite paved the way for a new polka dot spring trend with their Spring/Summer 2026 collections. While the polka dot print is never far from the trend cycle, last summer we saw its return through Blonditas’ silk tops and scarf accessories. Now, it’s back for spring 2026—this time feeling cleaner, sharper, and far more modern.

Now that polka dots are all the rage this season, here are three ways to style this classic print for 2026:
1. Start with accessories
Not ready to go full pattern? Introduce polka dots through scarves, tights, or a cute handbag.

2. Mix and match with confidence
Pattern lovers can pair polka dots with bold colors, stripes, or florals—just keep the color family consistent for a cohesive look.

3. Make it modern with minimal pairings
A polka dot blouse looks chic with clean tailoring—think classic denim for an elevated look.

A MASTERCLASS IN VERSATILITY: SERENA PAGE’S LOOKBOOK
LI USA Winner Serena Page
“People's princess” Serena Page is such an underrated style icon. While she’s known for putting Love Island on the map and winning her season, she also has an impeccable sense of fashion. Her post-villa fashion run has been huge, including appearances at NYFW, movie premieres, and more beautiful ensembles handpicked by her best friend, Alani. I’m personally a big fan of her sleek yet effortless aesthetic, which showcases a more edgy/ streetwear-ish style. Serena is never afraid to switch it up as she pleases, but no matter what she wears, she always curates outfits that complement her personality. Whether she’s popping out at a fashion show, star-studded event, or lounging in a villa, Ms. Page stays true to herself, her style, and never misses. From off-white to Alaïa, let's take a look at some of Serena Pages' chicest looks!

4.) Serena in an Alpinestars cropped leather jacket, accompanied by laced-up leather pants for NYFW.

5.) It’s giving Khalessi! Serena Page is wearing an off-white dress paired with latex knee-high boots.

6.) Honorable mention: Kordell and Serena for Cosmopolitan
Come through androgyny! Ms. Page proves once again that she's the queen of versatility while she dons a 2 piece pin striped suit ensemble.

Thank You Queens!
By: Sienna Lorient
I began my makeup journey during the pandemic, watching plenty of tutorials by girls with different styles, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
But who just so happened to be the most help were the drag queens. I am positive I will write more about their influences in my future columns; but for this one, I want to focus on the queens who have taught us how to beat our faces to perfection.
In this world, it is known that Black people have to work 100x harder than other races to be half as successful. To me, this makes their credibility more valuable.

JUJU BEE
A drag queen is a man cosplaying as his inner woman, but as men with harder features and broader bodies, they have to work much harder to successfully create the illusion they desire to Drag queens have been sharing their tips and tricks with “gworls” for decades, and as drag continues to evolve, their knowledge continues to spread.
I choose to speak about this because I believe drag queens are immensely overlooked, often seen as unrealistic or clownish. But this comes from a lack of understanding when it comes to stage lighting and performance visibility. Drag is often seen as a mockery of women, a caricature; however, many in the drag world say it’s an exaggeration of everything.

SHEA COULEE
They’re not trying to be women, but to be the women they feel they are inside, and to share their knowledge, stories, and light.
Allow Yourself to Be a Student
By Tsholo’felo S.

Nobody tells you when you’re no longer allowed to be a beginner — but somehow, you feel it.
At a certain point, learning stops feeling like a phase and starts feeling like a flaw. You’re expected to know. To move with confidence. To have things figured out. And when you don’t, it becomes frustrating.
Because if you don’t know it by now, it feels like you should.
That frustration slowly turns into self-doubt. You start questioning your pace, your ability, even your direction. It becomes easier to believe that you’re behind than to accept that you’re still learning.
But maybe the problem isn’t that we don’t know enough.
Maybe it’s that we don’t allow ourselves to be beginners anymore.
We’ve spent so much time trying to protect ourselves — soft launching our lives, waiting until things are certain, avoiding being seen trying — that we’ve started resisting the very stage that makes growth possible.
Because being a student is uncomfortable. It’s slow. It’s uncertain. It’s visible.
But it’s also necessary.
No one becomes anything without first not knowing.
Growth doesn’t begin when we finally get it right. It begins when we stop resisting the process of learning.
Because before you become anything, you must allow yourself to be a student.
Thanks for reading!! See you next week 💋
